A VISION UNFULFILLED

Fifty years later, it stands as a well-loved reminder of the city’s “baby boomer” expansion. The Yates Centre, when it officially opened on May 1 of 1966, was part of an impressive list of achievements for a city of not quite 37,000. But it was also the centre of controversy.
