Usually praised for its positive working relationship with Alberta’s energy companies, the Fort McKay First Nation has filed a formal objection against a proposed oilsands project.

Regulatory hearings for the venture, a Dover project run by Athabasca Oil Corp. and PetroChina Co. Ltd., began Tuesday at MacDonald Island Park, after the band voiced concerns that the project could destroy pristine wilderness within territory traditionally used for hunting, fishing and other cultural uses.
