There is a lot more to Fort McMurray than mobile workers and oil sands. The city, which is located in the northeastern region of Alberta some 450 kms from the province’s capital city of Edmonton, is often kindly referred to as ‘Alberta’s Northern Light’. Those who have experienced Fort McMurray may also have experienced the Aurora Borealis, or northern lights, for which the town is nicknamed.
