States with the lowest minimum wages

From 1998 through 2007, the federal minimum wage was set at $5.15 an hour. Over a three-year period, the minimum wage rose to $7.25 in 2010, and that’s where it stands today. By federal law, states may establish their own minimum wage levels; however, if the state minimum is different from the federal minimum, the higher wage rate applies.
