Southern Alberta land-use plan raises ire of off-road users

Nearly nine years ago, Fran Nykoluk was mauled by a grizzly bear near Isolation Creek in the Livingstone Range as she tracked an elk that her husband had shot a few minutes earlier.

The bear, a mother with two cubs, popped out of the woods and stared her down for a few seconds before swiping at her head and throwing her to the ground. She played dead while the bear attacked, breaking bones in her face and puncturing her arms, legs, chest and groin.
