Despite few YYC customers, high hopes rein for Calgary’s airport bus

More than 1,000 people ride Calgary Transit’s airport express bus weekly, but only 30% of those are getting on at YYC, says a report going to the city’s transportation committee Wednesday.

And of those getting on at the airport, only 35% are travellers, with the remaining passengers people who board downtown and along Centre St. N.

Proposed transit terminal dropped from Montrose site

After collectively showing their disdain with plans to build a transit terminal in the field to the south of the Montrose Cultural Centre, a group of concerned citizens have kept the slate clean in what has been referred to as Grande Prairie’s jewel.

More than 12 people – most of who were opposed to the idea – presented to a council committee of the whole meeting Monday, which led the committee to exclude a transit terminal as a possible fit for the currently vacant land.

Towns’ bus service stalls

Bus service between Lacombe and Blackfalds is stalled.

The communities can’t launch a planned service to Red Deer until the province calls for new public transit application grants.

“We’ve been taking the time to get everything in line, but this is all very much contingent on the province,” said Guy Lapointe, City of Lacombe’s community economic development manager.
