Warrington’s closure ‘unexpected’

The oldest independent store in Prairie Mall is shutting down. Warrington’s Jewellers Ltd. has been a pillar in the mall since 1974. Its closure is unexpected, but could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Ormond and Sylvia Shultz first started the store as Warrington’s Country and Guest in 1965, in a downtown location. It moved to the mall upon its opening in 1974, one of the very first stores to do so, where it altered its name. Before entering the jewelry business, Ormond spent 15 years with the Herald Tribune, first as a linotype, and then as a sportswriter. He subsequently founded Panda Camera, downtown, before opening Warrington’s – a move that proved to pass the test of time.
