City council sets sights on multi-million dollar composting facility for Shepard campus site

Politicians will decide whether to borrow a large amount of cash to build the city’s own composting facility that will see most organic waste diverted from landfills.

The city has set its sights on a multi-million dollar, city-owned but privately built and operated composting facility that will also see a Calgary-wide Green Cart program.

Council delays decision on organic composting facility to gather more information

Bureaucrats will have to put more work into how the city will build an organic composting facility.

After a behind-closed-door meeting on what to do with the proposed plant at Shepard landfill, council members delayed the decision on the matter and referred it to a strategic planning meeting of council on April 15.
