Downtown crossings changing soon

Pieces are falling in place that will lead to the simultaneous opening of the CP Rail crossing on Centre Ave. and the closure of the 4th Ave. crossing as early as the week of Jan. 20. Plans are also underway for the future installation of a new traffic signal on intersection of Hwy. 1A and Centre Ave., with the town and province splitting the cost 50-50.

WH Border plans hit traffic snag

The two-step forward, one-step back push for a 24-hour crossing at Wild Horse appears on the backward step with Medicine Hat’s MP citing last week a dip in border crossings in 2012 as an indication that more has to be done.

“Certainly the big thing is traffic,” said LaVar Payne during last week’s town hall meeting in regards to expanding the port’s operating hours.

Future use of Cambrian Crossing property up in air

Discussion surrounding Cambrian Crossing, a proposed 7,200 population development just north of Sherwood Park, is expected to return to Strathcona County council this month.

The project, located north of Highway 16 between Clover Bar Road and Highway 21, was approved by council in January 2011 and is a joint effort between Strathcona Countyand Cambrian Group.
