Sherwood Park parents raise concerns about proposal to create giant elementary school

EDMONTON – A proposal to convert a Sherwood Park elementary-junior-high into one of Alberta’s largest-capacity elementary schools has parents asking if young students would thrive in such a big facility.

Moving junior high students out of Lakeland Ridge School, at 101 Crimson Dr., is one of three options Elk Island Public Schools is examining during a district-wide review designed to make better use of school space and programs.

Catholic district secures land for new Beaverlodge school

Grande Prairie and District Catholic schools has resorted to plan B for a new school site in Beaverlodge after an unsuccessful attempt to purchase land from the Peace Wapiti School Division.

The school district has acquired municipal reserve land from the Town of Beaverlodge located adjacent to the current St. Mary Catholic school.

The municipal reserve land, currently ball diamonds, was offered by the town, which has voiced its support for a new Catholic school.

Construction begins on Airdrie schools

AIRDRIE – A long-awaited day has finally come for the Rocky View Schools division.

Rocky View Schools (RVS) officially broke ground on three new schools today, including two in Airdrie.

“This is thrilling,” said Airdrie trustee Sylvia Eggerer after officials turned the sod on a new middle school in Sagewood and a new high school in Prairie Springs. “This was a result of the whole community coming together.”
