EDMONTON – A proposal to convert a Sherwood Park elementary-junior-high into one of Alberta’s largest-capacity elementary schools has parents asking if young students would thrive in such a big facility.
Moving junior high students out of Lakeland Ridge School, at 101 Crimson Dr., is one of three options Elk Island Public Schools is examining during a district-wide review designed to make better use of school space and programs.

Grande Prairie and District Catholic schools has resorted to plan B for a new school site in Beaverlodge after an unsuccessful attempt to purchase land from the Peace Wapiti School Division.
The school district has acquired municipal reserve land from the Town of Beaverlodge located adjacent to the current St. Mary Catholic school.
The municipal reserve land, currently ball diamonds, was offered by the town, which has voiced its support for a new Catholic school.

AIRDRIE – A long-awaited day has finally come for the Rocky View Schools division.
Rocky View Schools (RVS) officially broke ground on three new schools today, including two in Airdrie.
“This is thrilling,” said Airdrie trustee Sylvia Eggerer after officials turned the sod on a new middle school in Sagewood and a new high school in Prairie Springs. “This was a result of the whole community coming together.”

AIRDRIE – The day Airdrie parents, students and trustees have been waiting for has finally arrived.
On Friday morning, the Rocky View Schools (RVS) board of trustees, RVS executives and municipal delegates will turn the sod on two new Airdrie schools, officially signaling the start of construction.

Construction of the new school in South Ridge is soon set to start. For those passing by the site of the future school by the Southridge YMCA, machinery can be seen working to strip the topsoil and get the area leveled off.

Select demolition is now underway at Bow Island Elementary as part of modernization plans for the school. “It’s pretty much going as planned,” said Brian Frey, maintenance supervisor with Prairie Rose District School Board.

A sod turning ceremony was held yesterday to begin the construction of the new Timberlands elementary school.
Currently the school does not have an official name, it is just referred to as the “new elementary school in Timberlands”. The official name will be determined sometime this upcoming year.
