U of A celebrates ceremonial groundbreaking of $57M fitness centre

EDMONTON- Students not yet born will be paying off the new fitness and climbing centre at the University of Alberta, but Ashlyn Bernier hopes the facility means as much to them as the current cramped quarters mean to her.

Some days she can’t even find a spot on the floor for her exercise mat as she tries to keep fit while studying and serving as the president of the Graduate Students’ Association.

Shell breaks ground on Quest

FORT SASKATCHEWAN – The shovels are going into the ground as Shell Scotford prepares for the Quest carbon capture and sequestration project at the facility, but the $1.3 billion project isn’t the only item of business on the refinery’s plate.

The facility also has a slate of turnarounds on tap for 2013, where each of the three phases of the plant will receive their scheduled maintenance, said Arnel Santos, the Scotford upgrader’s general manager.

Emergency services ready for growth with new facility

As Okotoks is gearing up to grow, the town’s fire department is well prepared to respond with the new south fire hall set to open in the spring.

Okotoks fire chief Ken Thevenot said the new facility, which takes up part of the South Ridge Emergency Services Building, is tentatively scheduled to open in May and it will include room for future expansion.

Sasol opens regional office in Sherwood Park

The latest playing in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland has opened a regional office.

Sasol, the South African company that is proposing to build a gas-to-liquids facility near FortSaskatchewan, opened the doors on a location in Sherwood Park.

Debbie Pietrusik, Sasol’s corporate relations manager, said the offfice is a temporary site the company will use to maintain local contacts with various stakeholder groups in the region.

The office is located on Sherwoord Drive, across the street from the Strathcona County office building.
