Fire hall on Peace River’s west hill moving forward

A new regional fire hall, which is a joint-funded project between the Town of Peace River and the County of Northern Lights, is one step closer to becoming a reality on Peace River’s west hill.

Last Tuesday (July 16), both Peace River Town Council and County of Northern Lights Council awarded the project’s engineering and architectural services to Barr Ryder Architectural and Interior Designers, an Edmonton-based company.

Fire Station No. 6 is operational

Sherwood Park’s newest fire station in nearly 20 years opened on Wednesday, May 15.

Fire Station No. 6, located at 915 Bison Way next to the RCMP station, is a fully-operational facility, as well as a training centre for Strathcona County firefighters, explained Darrell Reid, Strathcona County Emergency Services fire chief and manager.

Former seed cleaning plant burns to the ground

Police believe that the fire that destroyed the former seed cleaning plant in Beaverlodge early Friday morning is suspicious and might have been started deliberately.

The old Foster’s Seed and Feed seed-cleaning plant, which has been somewhat of a landmark in Beaverlodge for the past 64 years, burnt to the ground Friday morning.

Rising cost of fire services fuels ’13 property tax increase

Cochrane council unanimously approved a report for information for the town’s property tax design for 2013, which includes an increased fire tax levy.

Changes to the tax bill were presented by the town’s senior manager of corporate services, Paige Milner, who broke down the estimated numbers during the April 8 council meeting.

Calgary Fire Department Breaks Ground on Windsor Park Replacement Fire Station No. 11

Today MLA Moe Amery and special guests joined Fire Chief Bruce Burrell and the Calgary Fire Department in celebrating the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Windsor Park Replacement Fire Station No. 11. The new station will be located adjacent to the existing building at 5536 – 4th Street S.W., and will continue to serve the surrounding communities including Erlton, Windsor Park, Parkhill and the Fairview and Manchester Industrial areas.

City endorses Airdrie Fire Department’s 10-year plan

Airdrie Fire Department (AFD) recommended the City build its next fire station in Williamstown or Reunion in its 10 Year Fire Master Plan, presented to council, March 4.

The $815,000 fire house, which is expected to be completed in 2014, will replace the Main Street location originally slated for the Gateway area in Airdrie’s northwest.
