Calgary businesses benefit from Stamps’ stint to the 100th Grey Cup

Calgary’s playoff run to the 100th Grey Cup was a touchdown for local businesses.

“With the football games, we’ve been having people lined up out the door at 11 a.m. just to watch,” said Nicky Arsenault, a supervisor at the Shark Club sports bar, adding staff brought in tents and heaters so it could open its patio and make extra space for Sunday’s Grey Cup crowd.

Stampeders Grey Cup appearance a windfall for Calgary businesses

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders’ appearance in this year’s Grey Cup, combined with the fact there is no professional hockey these days, is turning out to be a ‘retailing windfall’ for businesses throughout the city.

From restaurants and bars to retailers of sports apparel, it’s been a commercial bonanza for business owners this week after the Stamps defeated the B.C. Lions in the Western Final on the weekend to earn a spot in the coveted 100th anniversary for the Canadian Football League championship.
