Sobeys store closing its doors in Pleasantview

EDMONTON – The south Edmonton neighbourhood of Pleasantview is losing a longtime grocer.

The Sobeys store at 111th Street and 51st Avenue is closing at the end of business on March 21. The supermarket opened in 1968 in the strip mall just north of Southgate Centre.

Although there is a Safeway store across the street at the busy shopping mall, residents say they will feel the loss.

Grocery options to increase with Clearview Independent Grocer

Red Deer will gain another major food retailer in the next two weeks with the arrival of Your Independent Grocer in Clearview Market Square.

The 27,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open on Nov. 28, joining a handful of banks that are already operating in the shopping centre west of 30th Avenue and south of 67th Street.

Sobeys first store in Quarry

Sobeys is the first to put shovel into ground in The Quarry that will radically change the downtown core of Cochrane.

The foundation is now being laid for the Sobeys grocery store being developed on the corner of Railway St. and Charlesworth Ave.by Barry Metcalfe to replace his existing Cochrane IGA store. The new store will be more than double the size of the existing Cochrane IGA.
