By Airdrie’s standard, 2012 wasn’t a huge growth year. After all, the 2012 census recorded population growth of only 5.92 per cent.

While that figure would be a record year in most Alberta urban communities, it represents more measured growth in the strategically located service centre that straddles Highway 2 just north of Calgary.

Still, it’s impossible to ignore the fact Airdrie remains Alberta’s growth king among cities, competing only with the likes of oilsands capital Fort McMurray.
