Private access to lake part of new estate area

Life by a lake is expected to float interest from house hunters when a new show home parade opens Saturday, March 23, in Mahogany.

“This is an exclusive estate area with private access to the beach that only residents in this area have,” says Scott Hamilton, senior manager of marketing and community relations for Hopewell Residential Communities. “In terms of proximity to the lake, you won’t find a better area in Mahogany.”

Will council dive in?

Over five decades, it’s attracted countless teenagers from Lethbridge and across the region. But the Henderson Lake Swimming Pool is constantly leaking, and its pumps and pipes are failing.

That’s why city council is being urged to spend $6.4 million to rebuild the pool and renew its mechanical systems. For that price, council was told, the city could get a slightly larger pool with more amenities, including easy access for limited-mobility customers.

Lake access key for Lacombe County

Lacombe County is opposing plans by Red Deer County to close a road at the shoreline of a popular Sylvan Lake boat launch, which Red Deer County says is frequently misused and abused.

Bylaw No. 2013/1 was given first reading by Red Deer County council on Jan. 15, and, if passed, would see the closure of Range Road 21 where it meets the Sylvan Lake shoreline near the Summer Village of Half Moon Bay.

Edmonton to spend $100,000 to study suitability of hosting world triathlon at Hawrelak Park lake

EDMONTON – Edmonton will spend $100,000 assessing the Hawrelak Park lake as it considers taking a run at hosting the 2014 World Triathlon Series Grand Final.

The money approved by city council Wednesday will pay for preliminary studies of what upgrades are needed in the lake, which is considered shallow, murky and too small for an ideal triathlon swim course.
