For the fourth year, Avenue has created our list of Best Neighbourhoods in Calgary. But, rather than have us tell you which neighbourhoods we like best, we turned to our readers. We asked you to complete a survey telling us what you think the most important attributes in a neighbourhood are. You told us that being close to parks and pathways, safety and friendly neighbours are what you most care about. We weighted those categories heaviest in our calculations. Conversely, what you care least about is whether the area is newly developed, has a uniform look or has large homes. Those factors were weighted lightest.

As “Moneysense” magazine released its list of the Best Place to Live 2013, Lethbridge rocketed up the charts, from a 25th overall placing last year to ninth overall this year. What’s more, the city ranked fourth in the top 10 mid-sized cities category, behind a pair of Ontario cities at the top, Burlington and Oakville, and British Columbia’s Saanich in third.
