Calgary luxury condo market sets record for MLS sales

CALGARY — Calgary’s luxury condo market has set a record for MLS sales for any month.

Between March 1-21, there were nine condo sales in Calgary in the price tag of $1 million-plus, according to Mike Fotiou, associate broker with First Place Realty in Calgary. For the entire month of March 2012, there were two sales in that price range.

Alberta wealth fuels luxury purchases

It’s no secret that Alberta is a wealthy province and that wealth has led to a spike recently in luxury purchases for everything from homes to cars to clothing.

News from Statistics Canada this week just confirms that.

The federal agency released data from the 2010 tax year which showed that the income gap in the province is increasing.

Downtown Calgary shopping centre on global list of most expensive retail rents

CALGARY — A downtown Calgary mall is on a list of the world’s most expensive shopping destinations for retail rents but it is nowhere near the amount of some of the globe’s priciest markets.

Cushman & Wakefield’s latest Main Streets Across the World report, released Wednesday, said the CORE in Calgary has annual rent per square feet at $98 in US dollars. The most expensive main street in Canada was Toronto’s Bloor Street at $314, which ranked it 20th in the world.
