Taxpayer dollars will go to financially struggling city-run golf courses

Financially struggling city-run golf courses will be getting some help from taxpayers next year.

Council voted Wednesday to scrap the mandate for civic golf courses to turn a profit while politicians also agreed to help them with expenditures to the tune of about $200,000 in 2013, and $400,000 in 2014.

City invests $17.1 million toward upkeep of local attractions

A new roof, fresh concrete curbs and better lighting may sound small, but funding from the city is helping local attractions continue attracting big crowds.

The city is pumping $17.1 million into a new civic partner grant program over the next four years. This year, six local attractions are being given more than $5 million to help pay the bills for maintenance costs.
