A new proposal which reduces the number of residential units and the height of buildings planned for the marina site, was narrowly supported by members of Sylvan Lake’s Municipal Planning Commission Monday night in a 3-2 vote.

Construction of a high-end condominium on the shores of Sylvan Lake could begin this fall.
Al Laplante, one of the partners behind Sylvan Lake Harbour, which is developing WatersEdge Condominiums & Marina, said detailed designs for the four-storey building that will overlook two sides of the marina are nearing completion. Once these are in place, selling will begin, he said, with the timelines for construction dependent on sales.

The Alberta Environmental Appeals Board has denied a developer’s bid to have a stay lifted that limited construction at a proposed RV resort on Gull Lake.
Issued in December, the stay prohibits developer Delta Land Co. Inc. from doing any work that affects the bed, bank, shore or waters of the lake.

A new 250-slip marina and boat launch is planned for Sylvan Lake, where overcrowding at the existing launch has been a long-running problem.
Local firms Bear Development Corp. and Lakeview Contracting have partnered to build the proposed floating marina for a site in front of the Bear-owned Chateau Suites. The boat launch would be located nearby on a site next to Wild Rapids Waterslide Park, which will remain.
