Alberta doctors highest paid in the country, new study finds

EDMONTON – Alberta doctors are, on average, the highest paid in the country compared with their counterparts in other provinces, according to a new study from the Canadian Institute for Health Information.

The institute’s national physician database compiled billing and compensation information from all provinces from 2010-11, the most recent year such statistics are available.

Alberta sets strong pace expanding doctor ranks

The number of doctors in Alberta has surged in the past decade, outpacing the national growth rate, according to a Canadian Institute for Health Information report.

Between 2001 and 2011, the number of physicians in Alberta increased by roughly 3,100, or 60 per cent, compared with the national growth rate of 23.9 per cent, the report found.

Long awaited clinic opens

It was a day Bragg Creek residents had long been waiting for: the grand opening of a new health care clinic directly in the centre of the hamlet.

The new centre will be accessible to 2,500 households in Bragg Creek, the Tsuu T’ina Nation, Redwood Meadows, Springbank, Priddis, and Millarville.

The newly created Mountain Woods Health Services Board was incorporated as a non-profit company and two years ago a fundraising campaign was launched in partnership with the Calgary Rural Primary Care Network.
