As construction ramps up in downtown Edmonton this summer to finish the North LRT to NAIT line, officials are promising the work will be less of a traffic headache for motorists.
The 3.3-km light rail extension that links Churchill Station to both Grant MacEwan University and NAIT is on the home stretch and will be ready for passengers by next spring, said Project Manager Brad Smid.

The NAIT Boreal Research Institute (nBRI), based in Peace River, announced to Town Council on Monday (Dec. 3) that the institute has approved funding for a new research facility to be constructed in Peace River.
Institute Director Hugh Seaton told council the project would cost $4.6 million, of which half of the funding would come from NAIT ($2.6 million) and the other funds coming from federal and provincial research grants.

EDMONTON – A milestone was reached Friday on NAIT LRT construction when political leaders unveiled a tunnel connecting the new system to Churchill station.
“It’s very exciting just being able to link the community together,” Mayor Stephen Mandel told a news conference on the Churchill platform, with an LRT train showing its destination as NAIT station as a backdrop.

EDMONTON – The three decades of work experience Les McKenna has as an automotive and heavy-equipment mechanic means he was half finished his business administration degree at NAIT before he even started class.
McKenna is one of 22 students who began NAIT’s new Trades to Degrees initiative in September, which accepts certified tradespeople straight into the third year of NAIT’s four-year bachelor of business administration program.
