Ambulance station proposed behind London Drugs

A new ambulance station will be located near London Drugs if Alberta Health Services’ application for a development permit is approved by the City.

If the permit is granted it will mean transforming what used to be “Puckmasters”, behind JYSK, into an Emergency Medical Services ambulance station to operate 24/7.

The location, next to Grandview Condominiums, fronts onto Southview Drive.

Council bats down bid to streamline permit process

FORT SASKATCHEWAN – The city’s planning and development department wants a little more free reign on granting developer approvals, but council wants to keep them on a short lease.

That was the upshot of a bylaw proposed by the department to create a new subdivision authority that failed to make it over the final hurdle.

The proposed bylaw would allow the department to grant subdivision approvals to developers, as long as the projects stay within  zoning restrictions set by council.

Clayton Kittlitz, city director of planning, said adopting the bylaw would streamline the permit process and avoid situations where projects stall while awaiting a date to be brought to council’s agenda.

Permit issued for five bay commercial building at Hinshaw and Herder

A five bay commercial building at the corner of Hinshaw and Herder accounted for more than half of the total construction permitted in October.

The building is the second for the complex on the south side of Herder Drive which currently houses a Fas Gas gas bar, convenience store and the Last Chance Liquor Store. Its construction is valued at $1,113,750, according to month-end statistics released by the town Monday.

Council gives landscaping company till Jan. 1 to find new location for equipment

After witnessing a fiery public hearing, complete with provocative accusations from angry neighbours, High River Town Council gave Farmboy Landscaping until January 1 to find a new home for the company’s construction equipment.

Council unanimously approved the motion, which also required the Town to reach out out to some concerned nearby residents, after lengthy debate at their October 9 meeting.
