The aptly named Uniquely Stony Plain project started approximately one year ago to create a new municipal development plan (MDP) and now the Town is delivering the first draft of that project.
After all the community engagement, neighbourhood parties, meetings, the Town’s director of planning and infrastructure Jean Porteous has a first draft of the new MDP for residents to scrutinize.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has issued two Requests for Proposals for work outlined in the City Centre Area Redevelopment Plan.
The first RFP seeks to employ the services of a highly creative and experienced firm to conceive and produce the McMurray Experience, an engaging and compelling multimedia and marketing environment combining video, lighting, architecture, sound and special effects to convey the vision and ongoing progress of the City Centre.

EDMONTON – The proposed $50-million overhaul of Churchill Square and surrounding streets into a downtown Civic Precinct was effectively killed Wednesday by councillors concerned about the cost.
“Everybody is telling me it appears to be a waste of money and it could be money that would be better spent on other things,” Coun. Kerry Diotte said.

High River town council voted to postpone debate Monday on a ceremonial motion endorsing the Calgary Metropolitan Plan (CMP) after councilors grinded to a stalemate over the expansive regional plan.
The motion was brought forward by Coun. Tim Whitford –an opponent of the plan- who said he was doing so to provide an opportunity for councilors to publicly share their views on the subject.

The Calgary Regional Partnership (CRP) is headed into mediation with Rocky View County and the Municipal District of Foothills after again failing to come to an agreement yet again over the Calgary Metropolitan Plan (CMP).
Doug Griffiths, Minister of Municipal Affairs, presented the mediation option to the CRP and the rural communities near the end of February with a no fail mandate.

Construction on a controversial shopping centre in Springbank could begin as soon as next fall if everything goes as planned.
“We wanted to show people our progress and show people that we are moving forward,” said Ron Renaud, developer for Bingham Crossing, of the purpose for an open house held Jan. 15 at the Springbank Heritage Club.
Rocky View County (RVC) council approved the land redesignation request for the project on Nov. 1 after a two-day, 20-hour public hearing, during which dozens of people came to voice their opinion on the centre to be located kitty-corner to Calaway Park, west of Calgary and adjacent to Highway 1.

EDMONTON — Alberta Energy may have inadvertently revealed its plans to address volatile electricity prices when it extended the regulated rate option program another five years just before the new year.
While some consumer groups feared the province might be planning to eliminate the electricity pricing program to push Albertans onto contracts with electrical retailers, Energy Minister Ken Hughes quietly extended the expiry date of the program to April 30, 2018 on New Year’s Eve. The program was to have expired June 30, 2014.

Red Deer city council hammered out a $107.5-million capital budget that addresses core infrastructure demands while making provisions for community projects in 2013 after nearly nine hours of debate on Tuesday.
The 88 or so budgetary items range from a $16,000 downtown off-leash dog park to $4.2 million in pothole reconstruction. READ
