Morinville needs to think regional if it wants a pool and more economic development, says Coun. David Pattison.

Pattison, 59, told the Gazette this week that he’ll seek a second term on town council during this fall’s election. The 25-year town resident joined council in 2010, and works as a land-use planner with the province.

City wants new lease on Michener facilities

The City of Red Deer is negotiating a new three-year lease with Alberta Infrastructure to carry on operating and managing the pool and gymnasium at Michener Aquatic Centre.

Earlier this month, the province announced it was closing Michener Centre by next January and moving the remaining 125 residents with developmental disabilities to group homes or seniors facilities.

Silver Springs residents dissatisfied with city’s pool revamp plan

Some residents of Silver Springs are saying the city’s plans for revamping their community pool are half-empty.

This spring, the city aims to demolish the northwest swimming pool and modernize it, replacing the diving board and dive tank with a wading pool.

But that plan is raising the ire of some residents who are circulating an online petition on the eve of tonight’s community open house.
