Hicks on Biz: Alberta Premier Alison Redford is no leader

A few weeks ago, every mad dog in that online kennel known as the Hicks on Biz comment section was taking a chunk out of my sorry rear for the suggestion, the mere suggestion, that Alberta Premier Alison Redford was a pretty smart political cookie.

Well, after that provincial 2013/14 budget announced on March 7, I apologize.

The mad dogs were right.

New poll suggests Alberta Progressive Conservative Premier Alison Redford’s approval is tanking

A provincial election tomorrow might tell a different tale than an election a year ago, if a recent poll is to be believed.

Numbers released Monday by pollster ThinkHQ show Premier Alison Redford’s approval rating has tanked 25 points since August, leaving her with a 33% approval rating.

Alison Redford: Dead Premier walking?

1)    Premier Alison Redford is a dead Premier walking. She has lost the confidence of caucus, the story goes, and is in the death throes of her administration.

2)    To position herself for a graceful exit, she is moving to the right to establish her national credentials as a fiscal and real conservative rather than the liberal lawyer with a funny hair do.

3)    Doug Horner has been anointed her natural heir and successor, having secured the backing of the monied elite in Calgary and the support of caucus.

Tax hikes must be looked at, says premier’s top official

As Premier Alison Redford begins consultations with her MLAs this week about Alberta’s mounting fiscal woes, one of her top officials says taxes must be looked at by the provincial government.

Some members of the government caucus, however, are calling for significant spending cuts in the upcoming budget as the Alberta government tries to avoid a gaping financial hole because of the spread between the price of bitumen and world oil prices.
