CALGARY — Total capital investment in Alberta is expected to reach $100.6 billion this year, an increase of 2.4 per cent over 2012 and another record high.
“While overall economic activity appears to be moderating in Alberta’s economy, new information on investment activity suggests the slowdown may be very slight,” said Todd Hirsch, senior economist with ATB Financial, about the data released Wednesday by Statistics Canada. “In fact, the provincial economy will still advance in 2013, but just at a slower pace.”

CALGARY — Calgary’s resale housing market had its best January for sales since 2008 as average prices also climbed to their highest level ever for the month.
According to the Calgary Real Estate Board, total MLS sales in the city in January were 1,230, up 15.17 per cent from a year ago while the average sale price rose by 12.34 per cent cent to $439,670.

Blackfalds’ new $15.3-million fieldhouse helped propel the community to a record year on the development front in 2012.
The town confirmed on Thursday that it issued 391 development and building permits last year, with these related to construction work valued at nearly $72 million. Both figures were all-time highs for Blackfalds, which has a population of about 7,000.

CALGARY — Average house prices in Calgary reached a record level in 2012, outpacing the housing boom peak of 2007.
According to the Calgary Real Estate Board, there were 21,207 MLS sales in Calgary in 2012 at an average sale price of $428,655, eclipsing the previous record of $423,770 in 2007 when there were 26,611 transactions.

Sales of properties valued at more than $1 million set a record in 2012 and the increase in sales in this market from last year is taking place at a higher pace than overall residential MLS sales in the city.

CALGARY— Sales of luxury homes in Calgary’s resale housing market will set a record this year, surpassing the boom of 2007.
The city experienced a record-breaking month in October with 51 MLS sales of properties over $1 million in Calgary, which was the most ever for an October, and that pushed year-to-date sales in the luxury market to 458, the same amount as the record set in 2007 for the entire year.
