During their regular meeting Monday night, Sylvan Lake Municipal Planning Commission members:
• approved the request of Meadowlands Golf Club to add an additional 34 fully serviced recreation vehicle sites at the most westerly boundary of the property, abutting 50th Street and west of the current sites. There are already 99 fully serviced sites on the property.

Sylvan Lake has been recognized as a favourite waterfront destination by a leading magazine.
Mayor Susan Samson said the town was honoured as the 2013 RV West Reader’s Choice Award for Favourite Lake or Waterfront destination in Alberta.

City council unanimously defeated one of its own bylaw amendments aimed at curbing the practice of parking RVs and truck-and-trailer combinations in commercial parking lots while also outlawing the practice of parking vehicles with for-sale signs on private properties next to roads.
The proposed bylaw amendments would have limited the amount of time any vehicle could park on a residential road. Under the existing legislation, which now remains unchanged, a vehicle can park on a road for up to 72 hours, while RVs and trucks and trailers were limited to 24 hours.

Parkland County council denied an application to rezone Allan Beach in order to allow for a 167 unit RV seasonal development on Oct. 23.
Division 5 councilor Denise Locher and Div. 6 coun. Tracey Melynk voted in favour of the proposed development with the remainder of council in opposition.

AIRDRIE – Recreational vehicles and personal property rights were the two hottest topics at Monday night’s council meeting.
City of Airdrie Manager of Municipal Enforcement Darryl Poburan, along with members of Airdrie municipal enforcement, brought the comprehensive and controversial Community Standards bylaw to council Monday night for a public input session and final readings. As council fully expected, it was the RV portion of the bylaw that had most people in the gallery up in arms. Council eventually decided to table the bylaw until the first week of December.
