Parkland Fuel agrees to deliver retail Shell LNG

CALGARY — The company that supplies gasoline and diesel through Fas Gas and Esso stations is jumping into liquefied natural gas retailing.

Red Deer-based Parkland Fuel Corp., Canada’s largest independent fuel distributor and marketer, said it has agreed with Shell Canada Ltd. to distribute the LNG it will start producing at its Jumping Pound facility near Cochrane next year.

Solar power may eclipse oil in fifty years: Shell

Solar could overtake oil as the world’s dominant energy source by 2060 in one scenario envisioned by Royal Dutch Shell.

Renewables could make up as much as 30% to 40% of the global energy mix by 2060, as oil loses its reign as the world’s biggest energy source, the oil giant said in a forecast on the energy sector’s changing landscape.

Jackpine mine expansion in public interest, Shell tells review panel

EDMONTON – Shell Canada came out swinging at critics of its proposed $12-billion Jackpine oilsands mine expansion, which calls for diversion of the Muskeg River and construction of a new lake to compensate for loss of fish habitat.

The project, 100 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, would bring in $17 billion in taxes and royalties over its lifespan and create 750 permanent jobs, Shell lawyer Shaun Denstedt said in final arguments to the joint review panel, consisting of Alberta Energy Resource Conservation Board and federal officials.

Shell project could burden population: municipality

The municipality has told Shell and the federal-provincial Joint Review Panel that it does not oppose the company’s proposed expansion, but the project brings concerns.

During a Tuesday morning hearing reviewing the project, municipal CAO Glen Laubenstein told the panel that the magnitude of growth from the oilsands has overwhelmed the province and the region.
