City to pump another $1 million into roads, sidewalks

St. Albert will spend another $1.1 million on road, sidewalk and bus pad work without spending any more money than budgeted for 2013.

City council on Monday gave its approval for a plan to perform additional work using surplus funds in the capital budget for this year. Due to a confluence of strange factors outside the city’s control, many of its tenders have come in below budget, leading to a surplus of funds available within the capital reserves.

Renters blamed for snowy sidewalks

EDMONTON – It would be easy to blame students for the mess.

Renters with no ties to the community, are they the focus of a rash of sidewalk complaints giving the university-area neighbourhood of McKernan rights to the title ‘worst winter sidewalks in Edmonton’?

Wider sidewalks, parkade part of downtown plan

Downtown sidewalks will become more lively, wider and user-friendly. But parking will be easier, too.
Those are some of the visions for downtown Lethbridge, as the city prepares a new area redevelopment plan. If approved by city council, it could see more office and residential development south of 4 Avenue South, with commercial uses focused between 4 Avenue and the Park Place mall.
