Indoor soccer centre planned

The Red Deer City Soccer Association plans to build the largest indoor soccer facility in the province.

The building, to be located on the southeast corner of their soccer field in Edgar Park, will be 137 metres long, 76 metres wide and 24 metres high (450 feet long, 250 feet wide and 80 feet tall). It will have room for three seven-versus-seven fields or a full field, along with a warm-up areas and seating.

Monklands Soccer Park to maintain current designation

City council voted to maintain the status quo for Monklands Park, located near Ralph McCall School, Feb. 19.

The 2.3-acre site was originally zoned public service district but was not titled a municipal reserve. In 2010, the site was redesignated as a residential medium density multi-dwelling district during a controversial public hearing. The move was made to allow for a Habitat for Humanity affordable housing project. However, the organization decided not to pursue the project.

City to help fund new $11M soccer centre annex

CALGARY — The city has agreed to finance a much-needed annex for Calgary’s biggest soccer centre, but it is seeking a new operator for the facility.

The remaining cost of the estimated $11 million needed to add four indoor soccer fields at the Subway Soccer Centre will cost the city $5.23 million. The remaining $5 million will come from a city-led financing strategy, which is already under development.

RVC contributes $250,000 to artificial turf assoc.

The Cochrane Turf Association will receive $250,000 in Rocky View funds to help with the development of an artificial turf playing field.

At the regular meeting of Rocky View County Council on Nov. 27, councillors approved the community recreation capital-funding request of $200,000 from the Ranch Lands Recreation Board, and $50,000 from the Rocky View West Recreation Board.
