Washout Creek trails to be upgraded, repaired this summer

More than $360,000 in upgrades to the Washout Creek trail loop was proposed at the Monday, Oct. 22 Devon town council meeting.

The trail loop, which begins at the Lions Campground and follows Washout Creek for several kilometers, suffers from a lack of heavy-duty maintenance. Bridges over the creek along the route are degraded, and are now only capable of supporting foot traffic.

Big price tag to improve Yellowhead Trail

EDMONTON- It could cost more than $800 million to unclog congestion on one of Edmonton’s key east-west thoroughfares.

A long-term plan for transforming the Yellowhead Trail into a freeway was submitted to councillors on Tuesday, with estimated costs ranging from $687 million to $823 provided the project is undertaken in the near term. Time and inflation could drive up the cost to $1.1 billion over 15 years, councillors were told.

Wanted: Improvements to the trail

When Murray Barker goes shopping, he ignores the advertisements and looks for cars. Using a wheelchair to move around the city, Baker said many drivers are distracted looking at commercial signs, and don’t watch out for pedestrians.

Providing complimentary donuts and ballots, the St. Albert trail improvement plan committee set up its tables last Saturday to seek the public’s input. They met local business owners and shoppers at St. Albert Place to ask what they thought was necessary to improve the city’s busiest commercial district.
