Using CO2 for enhanced oil recovery in Alberta is easier said than done

There was no shortage of bombast as several thousand protesters from the U.S. coal mining industry gathered in front of the White House in October 2013. “Keep your regulatory hands off the throat of the coal mining industry and our coal mining jobs,” Mike Enzi, a Republican senator from Wyoming, said in a rally cry to the crowd. The picketing miners were outraged with the so-called Clean Power Plan from the Environmental Protection Agency that would effectively restrict carbon emissions from power plants as part of the national goal of reducing emissions by 30 per cent from 2005 levels by 2030. Eight months later the law was passed, and another wave of protests followed.
