OPINION: In the last few months the interest rate steamroller has made its way from Queen Street to George Street, wreaking havoc on term deposit rates the length of the country. One after another New Zealand banks have squashed returns for savers into the tarmac. They’re so thin inflation of 1.4 per cent is now oozing out the sides.
