All Things Real Estate: Being a landlord requires commitment of time, people skills

Q: This year my sister and I inherited a medium-sized, three-bedroom house on the “bird streets” in Fairfield when our mother died. The problem is we can’t decide what to do with it. I want to sell the home, which is fully paid for, and split the money with my sister. She wants to hang on to the house and rent it out as an investment. She’s the younger sister and I think part of it is she doesn’t want to sell “Mom’s house.” Complicating the issue is that my sister and I have had a fairly torturous relationship for many years. The last thing I want to do is to have to work with her in managing this house. I’ve read your column for many years and, if you would be so kind, I’m very interested in your thoughts on the matter.
