CALGARY — Total housing starts in the Calgary region were down in March compared with a year ago, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp.

The agency said Tuesday that the number of starts in the Calgary census metropolitan area was 890 units during the month, down from 1,069 for March 2012.
