Edmonton looking at five-per-cent property tax hike in 2014

EDMONTON – Edmonton could see a property tax increase of about five per cent in 2014, according to initial numbers provided Thursday to city council.

The city will need to spend $83 million more next year, mostly for hundreds of extra staff and other costs related to the opening of the LRT line to NAIT, two new recreation centres, three libraries and other facilities, the figures show.
