In the coming year, the issue of whether or not there should be a mayor at large for the county will be put on the table for residents to vote on.
During the Dec. 11 council meeting, Leduc County council voted to defer the decision on a plebiscite on whether the county should elect a mayor at large to be held in conjunction with the municipal election, scheduled for Oct. 21, 2013.
The decision was deferred for the Feb. 5, 2013 meeting so councillors could speak with their respective ratepayers and receive feedback on the issue.
“The motion was very specific to ask the people of Leduc County to see if this is something they would like to see,” explained Coun. Jocelyn Mackay, who presented the motion to council at the Dec. 11 meeting.
