A rapidly expanding food processor is bringing more business to Lethbridge.
Cheddar cheese maker Agropur supports about $70 million worth of economic activity in southern Alberta, it says, and it expects to process more than 90 million litres of milk next year.
Its expanding plant now employs more than 50 Lethbridge residents, the company says, and it’s paid Lethbridge contractors at least $12 million for work there over the last five years.
But the production facility is in Diamond City, and the company pays Lethbridge to process wastewater after it’s used at the plant. The water is brought into the city in tanker trucks, but the company now hopes for permission to pipe it to the city’s wastewater plant.
