The good ship City of Calgary sailed into a new ocean of planning a couple of years ago and it’s been high seas and rough going ever since as the building industry and bureaucrats try to navigate through new directions.

There is little argument the way the city plans needs to change and to that end, last June the city’s Planning, Development and Assessment (PDA) department launched a transforming planning initiative.

The initiative has tremendous economic and societal ramifications that make it one of the most complex and important pieces of work ever undertaken in the PDA.
