Lethbridge’s new master plan for transportation, completed after more than two years of studies and feedback, looks ahead to a city population of 130,000.
Darwin Juell, the city’s transportation manager says the long-term approach offers more transportation options – cycling to work, or promotion of car-pooling – rather than focusing on roadways for one driver, one vehicle as the only way to travel.
The plan also proposes higher-density housing in some neighbourhoods, he told city council Monday. Juell also said more people would ride transit if it required fewer transfers – and if a beefed-up system actually met the city’s service standards for seniors and for newer neighbourhoods.
