Flair ends Tucson flights from Fort McMurray, four other Canadian cities

Flair Airlines has ended its direct flights to Tucson from Fort McMurray and four other Canadian cities. The service started last December and was supposed to run in Fort McMurray for three years. The Fort McMurray International Airport now has no international destinations.

RMWB dismantling downtown encampment, residents offered housing supports

People in an encampment along Manning Avenue are being offered supportive housing through a partnership between the municipality and Wood Buffalo Wellness Society. The encampment will be dismantled by Aug. 9.

Fort McMurray needs more doctors for pregnancies and postpartum care: Smith

Premier Danielle Smith has identified Fort McMurray as a community that needs more obstetrics doctors, according to her mandate letter to Alberta Health Minister Adriana LaGrange. Smith also names Lethbridge as another example of a community needed obstetrics.

RMWB council approves Draper buyouts based on 2023 assessed values

Proposed East Clearwater Highway cancelled, Fort McMurray-Grande Prairie route new focus

The proposed East Clearwater Highway is cancelled as the Alberta government refocuses its attention on connecting Fort McMurray to the Grande Prairie region. Council unanimously killed the project during Tuesday’s meeting in an exchange that lasted less than a minute.

RMWB council resurrects Northside Twin Arena complex

The Northside Twin Arena is back after it was shelved in 2016. Councillor Ken Ball pitched resurrecting the project because of ice time shortages in the community.

June unemployment up slightly in Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake census region

Unemployment in the census region covering the regions of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo and Cold Lake increased slightly in June, according to data from Statistics Canada.

Fort McKay Community Centre expected to open in Spring 2025

Construction has started on the Fort McKay Community Centre. The 12,000-square-foot building is expected to open in spring 2025. Features include an event stage, a commercial kitchen and concession stand, storage space, and more than 100 parking spots.
