Mayor Sandy Bowman wants cheaper power rates in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB), arguing that the municipality’s northern location makes it more expensive to use electricity in the dark winter months.

Mayor Sandy Bowman announces plans to run for second term as mayor

Mayor Sandy Bowman is running for a second term as mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) in next year’s municipal election. Bowman is about to finish his first term as mayor and is the first person to announce publicly plans to be on the ballot next October.

Second time’s a charm as RMWB holds Northside Twin Arena groundbreaking

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Northside Twin Arena project showed construction has, 10 years and eight days after the first groundbreaking ceremony, started on the long-awaited project. The two ice rinks are expected to open in Abraham’s Landing in Fall 2026.

RMWB council approves flood mitigation plans for last section of downtown

Smith favours incentives for oilsands commuters to settle in Fort McMurray

August 2024 unemployment in Fort McMurray census area highest since January 2022

Unemployment in the census area covering Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo and Cold Lake was reported at seven per cent last month in the Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake Census region, the highest it’s been locally since the COVID-19 pandemic.
