Council approves $4.49 million in design funding for Chérot community amenities site

St. Albert city council has approved $4.49 million in funding in 2026 for the schematic design for the community amenities site in Chérot, taking a first big step in the $173 million dollar project.

St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron will not seek re-election as Mayor, did not rule out a return as councillor

St. Albert Mayor Cathy Heron announced on Wednesday that she will not seek a third term in the mayor’s office, seemingly forecasting an end to her 15-year career in municipal politics.

Council passes repair and maintenance plans, $56.4 million in projects planned for 2026

St. Albert city council passed the 10 year repair, maintenance, and renewal (RMR) capital plans. Between municipal and utility projects, a total of $56.4 million is being committed for 2026.

City council votes to create engineering standards for gravel parking lots

Council has approved a motion to create engineering standards for gravel roads and parking lots, to the tune of $65,000 funded from the stabilization reserve, following a motion from Coun. Sheena Hughes during the June 3 meeting.

Residents detail parking issues around Bellerose Composite High School to council

The vast amount of student’s parking on the street is causing a headache for some residents near Bellerose Composite High School, two residents told city council during their regular June 3 meeting, leading them to ask that a parking permit be implemented to deter non-resident parking.

City breaks ground on 600 acre Lakeview Business District

After months of planning, servicing work, and preparation, the ground was finally broken at the site of St. Albert’s Lakeview Business District, the 600-acre soon to be industrial hub that the Mayor has said would bring in an estimated 5000 jobs.

St. Albert forecasts $1.5 million surplus in Q1 2025

St. Albert is forecasting a $1.5 million surplus in the city’s annual first quarter corporate report for 2025, significantly higher than the initial forecasted surplus of $322,000 in the first quarter last year.

Planned K-9 school in Chérot looks for new site after council vote

St. Albert Public School Board will have to decide on a new site for their newly awarded K-9 school in Chérot, after council unanimously voted against redesignating the 25-acre parcel of land where it was supposed to be built.

St. Albert city council has been presented with a slate of repair and maintenance projects across the city in a 10-year repair, maintenance and renewal (RMR) capital plan, worth a total of $56.4 million in 2026.
