Performing arts centre gets council support

Declaring a new performing arts centre one of its top priorities, city council has advanced $10 million toward its construction.

But more money for the $59-million project won’t come for another four years, council decided Wednesday – unless significant support comes from outside sources.

“This says we support it, but we don’t have the money now,” said Councillor Jeff Carlson, who suggested how council could show its endorsement.

Ground breaking ceremony for The River luxury development

CALGARY— The River, a luxury condo development in Mission, is partnering with the local arts community to create opportunities for youth in the neighbourhood.

The partnership between the developer, 26th Avenue River Investment Inc., an affiliate of Ledcor Properties Inc., and Antyx Community Arts is being announced today during a groundbreaking ceremony at the development at 135 26th Ave. S.W.

Proposed downtown performing arts centre could give life to 99th Street shopping district

EDMONTON- A performing arts centre being proposed beside the Epcor Tower should anchor a “cultural spine” along a 99th Street shopping district, organizers say.

The centre would feature a covered galleria courtyard surrounded by retail, commercial and cultural activities north of 103A Avenue, performing arts centre foundation chairwoman Dianne Kipnes says.
