WestJet to launch Encore service in the west June 24

WestJet Airlines Ltd. is expected to launch its new regional carrier, Encore, this summer initially serving Fort St. John and Nanaimo, B.C., as well as Saskatoon from its base in Calgary.

The carrier is also expected to provide Encore service between Vancouver and Fort St. John as well as Victoria, B.C., effective June 24 using a fleet of 78-seat Bombardier Q400s turboprops.

Air Canada to boost capacity in Western Canada as rival gears up

(Reuters) – Air Canada will boost capacity in Western Canada this spring and summer, the airline said on Friday, introducing new, larger aircraft and more flights as its biggest domestic rival launches a short-haul airline.

Air Canada, the country’s biggest airline, will replace its 50-seat Bombardier Inc CRJ100/200ER aircraft on Western Canadian routes with new Bombardier 74-seater Q400 Next Generation aircraft. That is the same plane that competitor WestJet Airlines Ltd will use for its new regional carrier Encore.

WestJet reports record November load factor, strong growth in passenger traffic

CALGARY – WestJet Airlines Ltd. (TSX:WJA) had a record November load factor and showed a significant increase in passenger traffic over the same month last year.

WestJet president and CEO Gregg Saratsky credits the increased traffic to partnerships with other airlines and an increase in business travellers.

WestJet profit soars as it flies fuller planes

WestJet Airlines Ltd,Canada’s second-biggest airline, reported an 80 percent rise in third-quarter profit as it flew more passengers.

WestJet, which is preparing to launch a regional carrier in the second half of 2013, said net profit rose to C$70.6 million, or 52 Canadian cents per share, from C$39.3 million, or 28 Canadian cents per share, a year earlier.

WestJet names its new regional airline ‘Encore’

Calgary- WestJet’s new regional airline, which will compete with Air Canada in some of Canada’s smaller markets, now has a name.

Following a vote by WestJet employees Thursday, the Calgary-based company announced its new airline — which is expected to begin flying in the last half of 2013 — will be called WestJet Encore.
