A tree in every front yard

Although there was some discussion surrounding the requirement for developers to include a tree in the front yard of new properties, Cochrane town council unanimously gave second and third reading to the land-use bylaw amendment making trees a necessary feature of single and semi-detached lots.

Limits placed on building heights

In order to try and curb unexpected changes to the Cochrane’s cityscape, town council has given final reading to a bylaw that limits the addition of principal buildings greater than five storeys.

Suncor Energy Inc (SU.TO) is pushing to reach full operations at its oil sands projects in the fire-stricken Canadian province of Alberta before July 1, according to several company employees.

Council sides with developer on pharmacy in Phyllis building

City council has given unanimous approval to a plan to take a 1940’s era commercial building in the McCauley neighborhood, and have it become home to a pharmacy. What was once known as Phyllis Grocery at 10631 96th Street is what long ago was one of the first examples of a commercial space built right into a residential neighborhood.

Many Edmontonians are so ticked off with the city’s new plan for lot-splitting and skinny homes that they’re talking about putting restrictive covenants on their own homes. The covenants will forever forbid their properties from being subdivided into two lots.
