Finding student housing in Calgary ‘near impossible’

It took Nikki Osbak months to find a place to live.

The 27-year-old Mount Royal University student knew she wanted to live close to campus, but found few options after searching online ads. Finally, she “lucked out” just this week, signing on to move into a rental home with two other students at a monthly cost of $600.

New school at Sunset Ridge given go-ahead by province; expected to open by 2016

It’s official: Cochrane will receive a new K-8 school that will house up to 900 students.

The school, which will be located in Sunset Ridge and expected to open in 2016, will ease what has been growing capacity issues in several Rocky View Schools (RVS) locations in Cochrane, specifically at Glenbow Elementary School.

Some booming Calgary communities left out of Alberta’s new school-building plan

On the edge of two fields in Mahogany, each with close cropped grass turning brown with sun, signs are erected that make the hearts of families in new communities go aflutter. “Future school site,” they read.

According to the latest population count, Mahogany, in the city’s deep southeast, now has 2,100 people. But that will very quickly double, triple, and more, eventually exploding into the largest community ever built in Calgary.
