WH Border plans hit traffic snag

The two-step forward, one-step back push for a 24-hour crossing at Wild Horse appears on the backward step with Medicine Hat’s MP citing last week a dip in border crossings in 2012 as an indication that more has to be done.

Bubbles all washed up on Whyte Avenue

EDMONTON – Bubbles is closing one of Edmonton’s oldest car wash locations because the Whyte Avenue property faces too many conflicts with traffic and pedestrians.

“Operating a car wash on Whyte Avenue is very difficult, given back alley space and delivery vehicles,” Bubbles chief operating officer Natasha Toffoli said Tuesday.

City bureaucrats going in circles with McKenzie Towne traffic flub

Just don’t tell the City of Calgary if the 360-degree saga of the McKenzie Towne traffic circle leaves you feeling a little woozy.

You have every right to feel a headache coming on when you learn the southeast roundabout will be repainted for the second time in only a month, because city hall meddling made a minor problem worse.

County unveils haul routes

In an effort to protect its road infrastructure the County of Lethbridge will introduce its new Haul Route and Road Use Policies to the public at two open houses this week.

The public are invited to attend one of the two open houses, the first is set for tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 27 at The Hub in Coaldale from 4 to 7 p.m. The second goes this Thursday, Nov. 29 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Shaughnessy Community Centre.
“I think it’s important to get the feedback from the users of these roads,” said Coun. John Willms at last Monday’s council meeting.
He said there are roads that should be included as haul routes that are not in the current policy.

Veness Road opens to traffic

An important piece of the City of St. Albert’s economic development puzzle fell into place this week with the re-opening of Veness Road.

The road along the eastern edge of Campbell Business Park, from Poundmaker Road to Corriveau Avenue, had been closed all summer for reconstruction, and Mayor Nolan Crouse hoped it would play a significant role in opening up the park for future development.

Crowchild streamlining would cost up to $1 billion and swallow up homes

CALGARY — City hall is proposing to alleviate Crowchild Trail of traffic lights and backups with several new interchanges, gargantuan ramps and not one but two extra bridges over the Bow River.

The ambition and scope of the multi-decade plan, to be released this week, comes with an even more ambitious price tag: $750 million to $1 billion, in today’s dollars.
