Edmonton is excited to be named one of the four Canadian cities selected to host matches during the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The other cities are Montreal, Toronto and Moncton.

Edmonton will be the host with the most for the FIFA 2015 Women’s World Cup.
Landing the opening ceremonies and opening game of the 24-team tournament featuring Christine Sinclair and the 2012 Olympic bronze medal winners was the goal.

City officials are considering giving Commonwealth Stadium a $20-million facelift so that Edmonton can host the Women’s World Cup of Soccer in 2015.
But so far, the mayor doesn’t seem willing to open the city’s wallet.
“The price tag is just staggering,” said Mayor Stephen Mandel, after a brief discussion about the proposed renovations during Tuesday’s community services meeting.
